Sense of Movement is run by Jo Willers, an experienced movement and meditation teacher in Melbourne, Australia.
Jo Willers is an accomplished yoga teacher with over 12 years teaching experience and 20 years of personal practice. She started her yoga practice in response to lingering injuries from years of competitive gymnastics and since then, she’s expanded her physical and mental health regimen to a broad spectrum of practices. Her multifaceted approach and decades of experience give her a special edge when it comes to working with different people with different goals. She offers programs and class styles for movement newbies, for high performance athletes, and for rehabilitating injuries old or new.
Jo’s focus is to help you cultivate a more peaceful relationship with your body by developing a deeper understanding of how your body moves and works. Healing from injury or preventing future ones is a delicate dance that is most successful when approached as a process of learning. Jo works alongside you, prescribing exercises and helping you understand why these exercises work. Through better understanding the process of healing, rehabilitation and gaining strength you are better able to manage your health and wellness in the long-term. Jo helps you take your wellness back into your own hands!
Jo began to study Buddhism under her teacher Frank Jude Boccio in 2020. As she deepened her own practice and understanding of Buddhist philosophy, the teacher in Jo couldn’t help but dream about how incredible it would be to share these teachings with others. In 2022 Jo began her Buddhist Teacher Mentorship with Frank, a long-term endeavour that has kindled a new fire in Jo’s love for teaching. She has completed the first segment of training and graduated as a “kalyana mitta” or “friend along the way” and a qualified meditation teacher.
Jo’s Buddhist study informs her meditation teachings and she also delves into other meditation practices. Jo’s lineage of Buddhism is Zen Naturalism - a lineage heavily informed by Zen and underpinned by a Naturalist perspective. Naturalism is a “theory that relates scientific method to philosophy...” - britannica.com This means that Jo’s approach to Buddhist philosophy is heavily informed by science and she brings this understanding into her meditation teaching. Jo’s meditation guidance is straightforward and grounded, helping you to better understand the nature of the mind.
“Jo's humble nature, personal insights, and clear instruction make different meditation styles accessible and enjoyable. Her genuine approach fosters insightful discussions between group members and real personal growth.”
